The Rivanna River Cleanup 2006

JOIN THE RIVANNA CONSERVATION SOCIETY, THE THOMAS JEFFERSON SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT, AND RIVANNA TRAILS FOUNDATION
FOR:

2006 RIVANNA RIVER CLEANUP ON LAND AND ON WATER SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2006 10:00-2:00

Would you like to spend a couple hours helping clean up your community and your river? On Saturday, October 14, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District, Rivanna Conservation Society, and Rivanna Trails Foundation will be hosting a river clean-up. Come join other conservationists both on land and on the water and be part of a larger effort to clean up waterways across the state and across the nation. Get outside and enjoy a wonderful time of year while helping beautify your community and protect the environment.

All are welcome to participate from individuals who only want to come for an hour, to avid kayakers looking to hone their skills, to families out for a hike in Darden Towe or Riverview Park, to civic groups looking to do some community service. There will be a variety of duties, so don't rule yourself out if you don't feel up to pulling refrigerators out of the water. We will have something for everyone! Join us in this noble effort, and then sit back and admire the fruits of your labor.

All interested volunteers should register for the event. If you are interested in floating a stretch of the Rivanna, contact Angus Murdoch at 589-9281 or angusrcs@yahoo.com or Phyllis White at phyllisdj@hotmail.com.

If you'd prefer to stay on land, contact Garnett Mellen with the TJSWCD at (434) 975-0224 or garnett.mellen@vaswcd.org.

The rain date will be Saturday, October 21, 2006. Garbage bags will be provided, but come prepared; it is recommended that you bring rugged footwear, long pants and long sleeved shirts in addition to lunch and water. If you are heading out in a boat, a change of clothing is suggested as well.
