Clark Elementary School is proud to announce that its

3rd annual Clark Super Achiever 5K Run/Walk

to benefit some very special programs for its students

will take place this year on

Saturday, September 27th, 8:00 am

(check-in and registration begins at 7 am)

A printable registration form (as well as a Clark 5K course map) are at the following link:

REGISTER HERE

PRE-REGISTER, AND SAVE! Register before 9/27, and fee is $20; day-of registration is $25.

IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF A HOUSEHOLD WHERE A CURRENT CLARK STUDENT LIVES, YOU CAN GET A SPECIAL REGISTRATION RATE: REGISTER UP TO FOUR FAMILY MEMBERS FOR $25!

The goal of the Clark 5K is to raise funds for Fourth Grader Scholarships and Classroom Grants. Both of these programs endeavor to support Clark's goals of setting high expectations for all students, and to help our creative, talented teachers actualize ideas for academic and cultural enrichment within Clark's school community.

In its first year (2006), the Clark 5K had over 200 registered participants, and netted $4800. Last year, in 2007, the race grew by about 25% on participation, and cleared $6200. Over three years, over $14,000 total has been raised (net) by the Clark 5K and other fundraisers; this money has funded 14 student scholarships, and over a dozen Classroom Grants.

We hope to grow the event this year, and hope that you can help!

Please, encourage your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors to come out and join us for the Clark 5K on 9/27. The Clark 5K has developed a reputation for being an event where the most competitive runners to someone just interested in a stroll through Belmont/Carlton on an early autumn day (and everyone in between) will have a great time, while benefiting a great cause.

If you have a family member, friend or neighbor who's not much into running or walking the Clark 5K, please ask them if they are interested in volunteering on race day. Volunteers get, along with our unending gratitude, delicious free coffee from La Taza Coffeehouse, and may partake of our refreshment spread after the race along with our racers.

Please pass along this number to anyone you know (individuals or groups) who may be interested in volunteering:

Here's some info on the Clark 2008 5K that may interest you:

  • all proceeds from the Clark 5K go to a special fund established at the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation called the Clark Educational Opportunity Fund. CEOF is used to fund Clark's Fourth Grader Scholarships (which provide direct grants to kids for educational use or college savings) and Classroom Grants, which offset costs of classroom enrichment projects, special field trips, etc.
  • we make a major effort to keep our expenses down for the race, and raise money from sponsors, so that as much of the race's proceeds as possible can go to CEOF and provide direct aid to Clark's kids. Extra donations are greatly appreciated (thanks!) and help make our proceeds go even further
  • top finishers of the Clark 5K in most age groups will receive prizes from Ragged Mountain Running Shop
  • grab bag prizes will be available; mostly gift certificates from area businesses. All registered runners/walkers who stay for the awards ceremony after the race are eligible for grab bag prizes.
  • parking on race day will be available at Belmont Baptist Church, Hinton Ave. Methodist Church, Virginia Industries for the Blind, MAS/Ashtanga Yoga, and WE Brown; typically, there is ample street parking throughout Belmont near Clark School. We will try to keep car traffic to a minimum in front of Clark on Belmont Ave. starting at about 7:15 am on 9/27 in preparation for the race start.
  • the Clark 5K will happen rain or shine.
